A model for
Sustainable Urban Mobility
Managing mobility is one of the most complex challenges facing city administrations. Keeping balance between mobility needs and quality of life in the urban areas is a difficult task, especially when public administrations have limited financial resources. MOMOS helps in designing integrated strategies for sustainable urban mobility and decarbonisation targets.
Analysis
MOMOS is an assessment tool that offers support to analyse the impact of different policies for sustainable mobility in urban areas up to the year 2050.
Adaptation
MOMOS is a flexible tool that can be adapted to different urban contexts. In its current version it can be applied to urban areas in the EU Member States, the United Kingdom, Norway or Switzerland.
Fast and light
MOMOS requires less data and can be applied within much shorter times and at lower costs in comparison with traditional transport simulation models.
What is MOMOS?
MOMOS is an assessment tool designed and developed to support the analysis of different policies for sustainable urban mobility with a strategic approach. It is adaptable to different city circumstances in Europe, and allows to rapidly identify, develop, screen, and assess different measures and policies packages. MOMOS allows city administrations to make a quick scan between alternative hypotheses of intervention, estimating the expected impacts and the orders of magnitude of the resources needed on yearly basis up to the year 2050.
Urban mobility policies
The key component of MOMOS is represented by the features offered for the selection of urban mobility policy measures and their adaptation to the study context.
MOMOS includes more than 30 urban mobility policies of different nature. Their selection is based on recent important European programs and projects such as CIVITAS, EPOMM, ELTIS, and EIT.
Measures can be simulated individually or can be used to build policy packages activating multiple measures.
For each measure it is possible to set a proper starting year, thus allowing to design intervention strategies considering also the temporal dimension, assuming that some policies will be implemented first while others at a later stage.
MOMOS indicators
Quantitative indicators are clustered into different categories – transport, environment and economy – and are calculated on yearly basis up to the year 2050 for each scenario.
The indicators make it possible to analyse the impacts of the different alternative strategies over time and to identify the most promising policies combinations to achieve the objectives.
MOMOS provides a valid support in the design of transport planning scenarios and in the preparation and evaluation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPS).
